Large enough for extended stays on board but small enough for a couple to handle easily, Sea Ray hit the mark with the L550, the most refined and final of their luxurious L Class series. Three staterooms, two heads, and a convertible salon sofa allow the boat to comfortably sleep eight guests.

Powered by Caterpillar C12.9L inboards with direct drives, the boat is nimble and easy to maneuver thanks to bow and stern thrusters, all integrated into a joystick. Below is a list of significant factory options and upgrades:

The foredeck has elevated bulwarks to keep those lounging on the bow secure and adds style to the exterior lines of the boat. An ACR spotlight and windlass with stainless steel anchor and foot pedals are all easily accessible.

The bow lounging area is much more than just a bench seat that you’ll find on many comparable models. It has C-shaped seen forward with bow with backrests that fold down under the hinging seat bottom – they are very easy to configure and store. The removable bow table and leg conveniently store under the seat bottoms as well.

A forward-facing sofa flanks the other lounge to create true opposing seating for five or more on the bow. For the extra hot days, a Mediterranean style sunshade with four poles and a mesh shade, all of which stow easily under the aft bench seat. A Fusion stereo system and dimmable blue accent rope lighting make the bow the perfect entertaining space.

Wide side access makes it easy to get to the transom and cockpit area. The transom has a wide hydraulic swim platform with self-folding, deploying steps making it easy to access the platform no matter how deep it is deployed. Where most boats this size feature crew quarters in the transom – a total waste for how most Americans boat in this size, the L550 has a large transom storage hatch, easily accessed from the transom, center line in the boat and deep. Complete with line holders, fender racks, etc. With tender chalks that can be slid out for removal and a lifting capacity of 1,000lbs, the platform can house a sizeable tender. The boat boasts a 2023 Williams Minijet 280. Williams is the world’s premier jet tender manufacturer.

Stepping up into the cockpit is a generous L shaped sofa with a folding maintenance-free, Corian table. Not common on all boats this size, the cockpit has folding gunnel doors for easy side access from a fixed pier. Cleverly, the fuel fills are under the folding footrest in the threshold of the folding access doors – making it very easy to fuel from the dock and keeping a clean, trip-free deck. For added visibility around the dock, the cockpit features a docking joystick that integrates the Caterpillar C12.9 Inboards (not pods) with a bow and stern thruster for complete docking ease without the headache and added maintenance of a pod system.

The port side of the cockpit houses the wet bar which was cleverly placed in an area that doesn’t impede into the cockpit but also doesn’t push too far outboard to interfere with the port side walkway. A Kenyon grill and drawer refrigerator compliment any entertaining in the cockpit. A retractable electric sunshade covers the entire cockpit.

The access to the salon and galley area is through a sliding glass door. All three glass door panes can slide to starboard or port, and when slid to port, all disappear to create true indoor to outdoor flow from the aft galley into the cockpit.

A growing popular trend for American boating is the aft galley which is featured on the port side as you enter from the cockpit. An island style with two bar stools eliminates the need for a formal dining table that takes up too much space. Cabinetry overhead is painted lacquer for a more modern feel, while the rest of the cabinetry is dark cherry with a high gloss finish.

Dual, drawer-style refrigerator and freezers are under a Corian countertop. Wood cabinetry cleverly slides inward to revel the microwave. A dual burner Kenyon cooktop, and stainless-steel sink all combine to create a fully complimented galley.

Opposite the galley are lacquered storage cabinets and an Isotherm wine fridge, along with the vessel’s main distribution panel for electrical switching, easily accessed just inside the salon door. A high-low Television is cleverly hidden and raises by just turning on the TV and Bose surround CineMate system.

The salon sits forward with opposing facing seating. On the starboard side is a two-person sofa finished in Ultraleather, while the port side sofa is a larger L shape and fitted in Ultraleather. Ottomans have storage and the lids can be flipped from a cushion to hard top surface, which lets each ottoman double as a coffee table. The port side lounge also pulls out to convert to another sleeping area – making the boat truly capable of sleeping eight comfortably through three staterooms and the convertible sofa.

The entire salon can be basked in sunlight by opening the extra-large sunroof which also creates plenty of air flow while underway. It also has a sliding shade to keep the heat down on hot days.

Two Stidd helm seats are mounted on an elevated floor for increased helm visibility. A sliding window also makes it easy to see the entire starboard side of the boat while maneuvering and docking – and also makes it easy to communicate with dockhands.

The helm has all the desired electrical and navigational equipment for even the most experienced boater. Two GS165 Raymarine screens are separated by a Caterpillar color engine display, and Raymarine i70 depth display. A first for Sea Ray and ahead of its time, the Raymarine screens have access to a digital switching system for most all systems on board, complete with manual redundant backups. This system can instantly turn on and adjust all lighting and air conditioning on the boat. All pumps, shades, and more equipment is easily controlled as well from the digital switch panel.

Utilizing Raymarines internal Wi-Fi, a tablet can also have control to this page which gives the ability to control all the systems anywhere on the boat.

A false floor is intuitively hidden and drops down to increase visibility when standing at the helm. Glendinning binnacles and inboard joystick system are conveniently placed near the outboard arm rest of the captain’s seat.

Below the dash sits the comfortable, leather-wrapped steering wheel with stainless steel spokes. All equipment and electronic switches are backlit, so it is easy to tell what has been turned on and what is off. A Raymarine VHF and p70RS Autopilot controller.

Below deck, the master stateroom is aft which eliminates the noise of hull slap and gives the owner a true walk around bed. The stateroom feels much larger than most aft masters in this size range because Sea Ray cleverly offset the bed in the aft starboard corner. This gives the benefit of a true island style, walkaround bed but also increases the open floor space in the stateroom.

Featuring all the compliments of home, the master stateroom boasts a washer/dryer, large Samsung television with Bose CineMate system and surround sound speakers. Unlike most boats that offer either a chaise lounge or storage drawers in the master, the L550 offers both a forward facing chaise lounge and outboard chest of drawers.

The master head is situated off the master entrance corridor. It features a standup shower stall with rain shower fixture. A vessel style above counter sink, tiled backsplash, and a combination of lacquered and wooden cabinetry all combine to create a luxurious and modern feel.

Forward sits the VIP stateroom with a mostly island style, walkaround berth that makes it easy to change sheets. Large hull side windows with opening portholes let in plenty of natural light and fresh air when desired. Two mirrored hanging lockers, a television, and ensuite head provide guests with the same amenities and storage as the master stateroom.

The day head is accessed through the lower deck corridor or the ensuite access in the VIP stateroom. Dressed in the same finishes and luxury as the master head, the day head has a circular shower stall that when not in use, opens to increase the floorplan of the head.
